I’ve noticed how quickly I start feeling behind this time of year. As many children end their school year in May, the summer calendar quickly starts to fill up.
For some, it’s figuring out daycare and others, it’s figuring out how not to go stir crazy at home.
There’s so much pressure for this summer (like every summer) to be the best summer ever.
I think our children should be excited for their summer break after a long school year, but instant change can be difficult.
Sometimes we need a little time to adjust to what summer with our kids will actually be.
Just because the weather changed doesn’t mean your nervous system did.
Not every transition feels immediate emotionally, even when the calendar says it should.
Instead of trying to jump into everything at once, maybe we can enter summer a little more slowly and leave room for spontaneity without the pressure.
You don’t have to force yourself to match the season’s volume immediately or rush toward the next best thing.
There’s room for both rest and adventure this season.
The fancy thing is, summer will still meet you, even if you arrive gently.
If you’re easing into summer more slowly this year too, I added a gentle journal prompt below for you.
You don’t have to rush your way into joy.
From my road to yours, happy wandering.
