Have you noticed that shift yet? As I was getting our laundry started, my son pointed out that he could hear the birds chirping.
There is usually a moment where the birds become active in spring.
It is one of my favorite things to listen to early in the morning.
Ordinary Days
If you look back on your memories, most will probably hold the most ordinary moments. We never realize it at the time it happens, but these simple flashes in life are the most precious.
Do you remember hearing your grandparents say “Slow down!”? I think what our older relatives may have been trying to tell us is that the beauty in life is often found in the most ordinary days.
I had that aha moment earlier in the week while I was washing dishes.
My 10-month old goes into the pack and play while I’m out of the room but his brother (my 5 year old) will play with him.
So while I was at the sink, I hear a burst of giggles.
My 5 year old is jumping and making silly faces next to his brother. My little one absolutely loves his big brother, and will laugh away at him.
It brought the sweetest light in that moment of the day. Not a milestone but still memorable.

The In-Between
May in itself is full of in-betweens. The season started with an explosion of pollen all over my car and now some are ending their school year already.
The calendar is unintentionally and quickly filling up as the season is preparing for the hot summer months.
And the thing is, May never asks us to stop. It just keeps leaving little breadcrumbs of beauty behind us.
As I’ve gotten older and had kids again later in life, I remember the most random moments.
Like when I was little and my mom would run to the corner store (gas station).
Where we lived that was an adventure!
I remember my brother and I sitting in the front seat with my mom, barefoot and unbuckled (because we could be at that time), and listening to the classic or soft rock she always had on the radio.
It was just an ordinary moment, and we rarely ever know which ones will become memories.
Simply Noticing
Sometimes noticing is enough.

You don’t have to constantly take pictures or record videos of what is happening.
The mementos can be nice but if you stay awake to your own life long enough, you will feel it.
The peace that comes from those ordinary moments.
The seemingly random but everyday occurrences remind me that life is often built from almost-unnoticed fragments.
I invite you to think about one May moment that you already want to keep. If you would like to share, I’d love to hear about it.
Maybe the little things matter most because they’re the ones we almost forget to see while they’re happening.
I’ve been keeping track of tiny moments lately. The kinds of things that don’t seem important until suddenly they are.
If you would like a gentle companion, I created a journal prompt guide for noticing the messy-beautiful parts of everyday life.
From my road to yours, happy wandering.
