My boys and I made a quick trip to Walmart (because, let’s be honest, anything longer than three hours risks a hunger meltdown from my 3-month-old). My 4-year-old meticulously picked out a 5-pack of Hot Wheels cars — and inspected them through the package all the way to checkout.
The line was long (as usual), but the cashier gave us a laugh. She teased my 4-year-old, saying the cars were for babies. He looked so serious, correcting her: “No, they’re for kids.” Then, pointing to his little brother in the basket, he made it very clear: “These are not for babies — they’re for BIG kids.”
The exchange turned the hectic rush of shopping with littles into a pocket of laughter — even if my son wasn’t quite in on the joke. For me, it was a reminder that joy has a way of showing up in ordinary moments — even in checkout lines.
Sometimes the tiniest detour — like picking out toy cars — is the highlight of the day.
✨ Journaling idea: Write down one “small joy” from today. You’ll be surprised how these little sparks add up when you look back.
